SUPERCHER AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
The word ‘brony’ bugs me, I don’t like it. Brony says ‘if you’re a male fan, you’re special, you get your own clique’, which implies females fans aren’t welcome to join the club, and they don’t get their own clique. From what I’ve seen, a lot of male…
THIS.
That and “brony” sounds totally uncool and makes us all sound like dorky college-aged boys with skid marks in our undies. We should come up with a WAAAAAYYYY better name than that. Gotta have one that is a blanket term for all pony fans, I agree with you there. Sorry man, but I think “The Herd” also sounds… uh… not good. Makes us sounds like some sort of terrorist cell. Hmmmmm… gotta think on this. I’ll get back to you.
I agree partly with the original comment, in the sense that they were talking about how well the show has been made.
I dislike calling myself or other around me bronies. I never made this blog for the fact that everyone likes the show and thought “Hey, this URL isn’t taken and it’s a popular show.”
The entire reason I made this blog is because I am a fan of the show and everything that it includes (Animation quality, amazing character design, interesting stories, better than average songs etc.) But I wouldn’t go so far out of my way to call myself a “brony.”
The term “brony” to me sounds as though everyone feels the need to tell people that they enjoy something out of the ordinary. A while ago I saw a post going around that was saying “Reblog if you’re older than 12 years old and watch My Little Pony” which counted up over 1000 notes last time I saw it. People shouldn’t feel as though everyone around them must know about their likes and that is exactly what the word brony is doing.
I’m not going to lie and say that I haven’t gone and purchased some of the toys but as soon as you start walking up to people (in the metaphorical sense) and shoving your fandom in their face then I think it is going too far. Whether you be male, female, child, adult or anything in between, the term itself implies that you are trying to show off to other people, regardless of what kind of person is saying it.
Secondly, I would like to take a small second to ask everybody who is doing it, to stop blaming 4chan for what has happened to the ponies. I have seen from first hand experience, the works that come from 4chan. I mean yes, most of what comes from there is disgusting pictures, cheap jokes and horse sexualisation but there have been a numerous amount of times where I have gone on /co/ or /b/ or /an/ or /v/ to find a thread I enjoyed reading because there was a general concern about someone or something. Without going too far into detail, I wish to politely ask the subjects to stop thinking of the entire site as one giant troll. It can be an enjoyable site at times.
Third and foremost, I wish to inject my own personal opinions on the fandom itself. Most of all about how everyone seems to “love and tolerate” each other and how they only really seem to care about one specific point of the show.
Almost every single site and fanbase that I have seen that has been branched from the My Little Pony franchise has all been (to not sound so harsh) dumbed down from their own doing. Take Ponychan for example. They pride themselves on the fact that everyone will get to intersperse their own opinions no matter what it is, but as soon as somebody gives the smallest bit of subjective criticism or they tell someone on how they are mistaken. They get banned. If you think differently then I will kindly point out that I know several (real life) people that this has happened to. This is not what the term “Love and Tolerate” means.
Tolerance means: “To endure without repugnance” or in other words, you will tolerate any action of which you don’t agree.
Simply put, Love and Tolerance mean the complete opposite so every single time you say it, you are contradicting yourself in more ways than one. I am not saying that Ponychan is the only site that is guilty of doing this, I have seen it on 4chan as well and Equestriadaily, derpyhooves, youtube, the list goes on. This is the reason why I dislike going on any of these sites. People on there are unable to think things through. You can say that you love someone, you can say you tolerate someone, but please do not say both. I think that only /co/ is the place where I have seen a proper, lengthy, intellectual discussion about the dynamics of the show.
Finally, I would like to say that this blog has almost been running for a year now and I have come to learn many new viewpoints about the people who watch it, the people who draw fanart, make videos and how I see the show itself. I take pride in this blog and how my followers and I have grown with the jokes spawned from the show. My memory isn’t all that good but I think that Fillydelphia was the only other pony blog on Tumblr when I started (correct me if I’m wrong). Since then, there have been many, many, many more that have been made and I would like to say that I try to do a very good job with being as friendly to everyone and as helpful as I can be. I try my hardest to find pictures, videos, songs, blogs and anything else that people will enjoy. I don’t go around reblogging every last My Little Pony picture I see. I look very hard for items that will amuse everyone and the people around them instead of posting every single piece of art ever made from the show. So with that, I want to thank all of my followers for sticking with me through the entire process.
If I offended anyone with this post than I am sorry. Everything in this post is that of personal opinion and if you take anything said as undignified or aggressive then I apologize deeply.
Why I do not agree with the animation quality (which is fairly poor as seen on my other tumblr blog), but for a flash cartoon, it’s very interest to look at. It’s really hard for me to describe why I like the animation so much because it uses the same “cheats” as every other flash show out there (squash and stretch, tweening, etc.) It’s shoddy, but it has a lot of personality to it. Maybe I’m fucking stupid, or maybe I’m too busy cackling at the frames where ponies are in the middle of blinking. I didn’t make these blogs to get in on a trend or to bash the shows production, but because I noticed “hey, that window disappears the next frame” or “hehehe look at how silly Fluttershy looks here” and I honestly do love this show.
The term “brony” is not gender specific, but that does not stop it for being elitist or downright retarded (or turning into something stupid). I saw the reblog image, and 1,569 notes to me means that there are approximately 1500 really obnoxious fans. I like to partake in miniature pastel equines as much as the next guy, but that’s stupid, and obviously pandering to internet trends for attention. That and everything like it is meaningless circlejerking. It doesn’t celebrate the show. It’s a circlejerk that celebrates the fandom.
“Brony” originated on /co/, but before you wag your finger, you have to think of it in the context of time where everything that had something that rhymed with “bro” inevitably had it tacked onto it. It functioned like “yo, brony” or “sup bronies”? An alternative was /co/lts but that didn’t really catch on. Even before Ponychan was made we all got sick of brony and many were relieved to think of the possibility of never having to see that damn term ever again, but then Ponychan happened. Months late, the media circus had a few slow days and wrote some horrible articles, purposefully cherry-picking pathetic losers, making little effort to disguise their shit-talking (especially that fucking Wired article).
It’s not even endearing or nerdy like Trekkie. When people hear “Trekkie”, they think of your typical die-hard pimple-faced nerd. Being “nerdy” is the worst they’re painted as, but “bronies” are depicted as autistic socially-retarded basement dwellers with the mentality of children who have lost all grasp between reality and fantasy. I have never seen a single instance where other fandoms had news articles about them that DIRECTLY attacked the people in it with such cruelty and lack of remorse. They find joy in attacking something they have never heard of until five minutes before typing up the liquid diarrhea they call “journalism”. “Brony” is like a gangrene infection belonging to Ponychan, and they insist that it will “get better” and the dead tissue will “live again one day”.
Moving on to porn, back in the beginning of the fandom, I didn’t mind porn or rule 34 (and have in MULTIPLE instances cheered on artists to be deviant little bastards), but now I grow tired of it since it became a parody of itself. It shows when you’re exposed to so much smut you become jaded, and in the worst (or best for some) case scenario they see it as a change of pace from their usual fapping habits. Some of the humanized stuff got to me, but anthro and pony does nothing and it never will. In some ways, the idea of people rubbing one out over something that they would have wanted for shits and giggles is even more tragic that Ponychan, which was already built on a foundation of perversion. “Love and tolerance” meant nothing then, and six months later nothing has changed.
I was nowhere near one of the first to make a MLP-related tumblr. Hell, it took me until March to get one, and it took me around late April to create mlperrorsaremagic, and another two months later for this one. The first one was created simply because there was no other blog for it yet, and this one was just made so I could dump screencaps (funnily enough, this wasn’t made either). Until then, I just used my main blog for this shit, but figured it was too messy if someone wanted to navigate something specific, and while it served as a catch-all, it was pony-specific (despite almost every damn thing being pony). This will probably be my only post that drifts off-topic and I only post it here because more people should read this.
Don’t you ever DARE apologize for your opinions, friendshipismagic. I have been much ruder and coarse and I’m not going to pardon myself for a single word. People can either agree or disagree.
It’s pretty funny. Ponies, of all things, becoming popular and then serious business. I take my tiny horses for which I am entitled to very seriously.
